This whole piece is such a treasure, Candace! Each paragraph I read contained another gem, another bit of wisdom. I am (trying) to learn to rest. It feels like swimming upstream sometimes, our culture is so reluctant, even adverse to doing so. And I know how important rest and simple downtime is to the creative process, and yet I am always having to tease apart the ties between productivity and value. Whew.
I just started reading a book that I think you might like...Phosphorescence by Julia Baird. I am about a quarter in...will report back. Glad you are taking such radical care of yourself. You inspire me. ♥️♥️♥️
Well, the feeling of inspiration is mutual! It's a lot of work, right?!? The idea of rest and it goes against everything we (I) was shown/taught. I am so grateful for the folks that are speaking and writing about it more now. I am also glad I am youngish enough and healthy enough to recognize and make a change. Thank you!
“that in order to gain more focus we do not rush into the act of more doing, but step away instead. In the space we create by stepping away we are then more able to contemplate, wonder, and dream.”
Exactly, Candace! Thank you for sharing! I left a good 90% of my practice and have downshifted majorly. I’m creating space (and time) for myself this year. Instead of pushing to fill the calendar and agenda, I’m allowing it to be what I’m attracting to it, what the Universe wants to give to me.. Receive.relax..just be here now! 💜☮️🕉️ Blessings on your healing journey! Xo
“Receive, Relax, just be here!” I feel you on that one. I love that you are creating space for yourself. We will keep working through this. Together. We are not alone in the healing of this mentality. Sending you love 🙏🏽❤️
CANDACE!!! I'm so glad I recently found you/this substack/your podcast. Oh the act of being uncomfortable with the idea of rest.... and just resting, without an agenda, really resonated with me. Because whew this past year has been something. Thanks for sharing your words and feelings with us.
Oh and P.S. I recently moved to Denver but work in Castle Rock, so if you need anything during your recovery just let me know :) Take care
My word for myself for 2023 is Curiosity. I’m reminding myself to bring wonder to life in all its manifestations. I’m trying to keep a sense of asking questions instead of finding answers. You know me well enough to know how this is a place of growth for me.
In that vein, I find myself being curious about the timing of reading your words this morning. So much of what you’ve shared directly, and through the beautiful quotes you’ve chosen, feels like it connects to what I’m experiencing in my life right now. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us!
Oooohhhh! Such a great word! And I love "asking questions instead of finding answers." And yes, I know this will be a challenge for you, but also a great one! You've come a long way, Baby ;-). Timing... also interesting. The Universe knows nothing of time and space. What we need most will always find us --- we just have to keep our eyes open to see. I love you with all my heart.
